Rachel is joining the BCS team as the Student Services Assistant Director and Elementary Choir Director.
Rachel was born in Texas, but grew up primarily in northern Colorado. She graduated from Colorado College in 2008 with a B.A. in music and elementary teacher certification. She met her husband–Bellingham born and raised–during her freshman year of college and married him two years later. When she graduated, they moved back to the Pacific Northwest for her husband to pursue his master’s degree.
She began teaching at Evergreen in 2009, and started out as the general music teacher. She fell in love with the school community and the beautiful picture of the body of Christ that was lived around and with her every day. After teaching at Evergreen for 3 years, she moved to Seattle for her husband’s job. While there, she continued to teach music in both public and private schools. They have been back in Bellingham since 2016, and she began teaching first grade in the fall of 2017. Teaching is a wonderful adventure, and brings her joy every single day. She loves the energy and curiosity with which first graders approach their world, she loves seeing their faith deepen and develop as they explore their own relationships with God, and she is so very honored to be able to shepherd these precious members of his kingdom.
Rachel is married to Andrew, who works locally as a geologist, and they have two children-Peregrine and Sylvia. They worship at Lettered Streets Covenant Church here in Bellingham, and in their free time, they love to hike, ride bikes, enjoy any sunshine they can, travel, read good books, and walk down to LaFeen’s for donuts.
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.” Isaiah 43: 1b-3.
