First Grade

“I am so excited to be part of the BCS Teaching Team after taking some time away to be a stay-at-home-mom! “

I grew up in SLC, UT, and graduated from Intermountain Christian School.  All the years of “living at school” because my mom was an elementary teacher must have made a good impression as I decided to head to Dordt University where I received my BA in Elementary Education along with a Reading Endorsement.  I taught for six years in elementary classrooms in four different states as I followed my husband, Brian, through Optometry school, residency, and into his first job in Olympia, WA.  Once my oldest was born, we decided I would stay home.  We moved to Bellingham almost 10 years ago now.  We are so thankful for the beauty of God’s creation that surrounds us, the joy of friendships that the Lord has provided through our church, school, and neighborhood.  We are also so thankful that my parents moved here about 2 years ago!!

I love spending time with my family! Brian and I, along with our four kids, love to spend time outside hiking, biking, kayaking, and going for walks with our 15-year-old Golden Retriever, Matty Sioux.  We also love to sing together and play board games.  We love being part of Hope in Christ Church where we serve on the worship team, help with Sunday school, and serve in other various leadership roles.

While I have absolutely loved volunteering in different ways at school through the years, when I got my feet wet with subbing at BCS this past school year, I knew I was ready to get back into teaching if an opportunity arose!  I am so excited that the Lord has provided the opportunity to team teach 1st Grade with Rachel Nelson.  We are humbled to partner with you in this educational setting!  We look forward to serving and loving your children and families.

I love teaching! I love seeing kids’ faces light up when they discover or accomplish new things.  I love hearing children’s voices join together in praise to Jesus.  I love the opportunity to help build a classroom culture that recognizes our need for Jesus and seeks to be a place that is an expression of His love as we love and care for one another and learn and grow together.  Looking forward to this adventure with you!

Deut. 31:8  For the Lord himself goes before you and will be with you;  he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.
