Athletic Programs & Philosophy

Programs

Bellingham Christian School offers several junior high athletic opportunities. Athletic programs include coed soccer, coed tennis, girls basketball and boys basketball. Soccer begins in September, basketball in November and tennis in the spring.

Our students are also involved in local athletic organizations and public school athletics. Many of our younger students join teams at the Boys and Girls Club that are coached by one of our parents. For more information on these programs, please contact the school.

Philosophy

The value of athletics lies in the intrinsic characteristics that are related to competition. It is a method of developing our bodies and character and of teaching sportsmanship, leadership and commitment. Coaches have the opportunity to teach students to discipline their minds as they learn to handle fear, anxiety, pride, hate, pain, disappointment and excitement.

Our goals:

  1. The major emphasis of our program is to build Christian Character:
    a. Teach students how to work as a team.
    b. Teach students how to win graciously and not conform to the boastful
    nature of man.
    c. Teach students how to lose with respect and dignity so that they may
become examples to others. Glorify God win or lose. Our objective is not
to win, but to be winners.
    d. Teach students how to respect the referees. If athletes believe something
unfair is occurring, they should let their coach know and allow the coach to
talk with the referee about this.
    e. Teach students how to be strong and overcome discouragement and stress.
    f. Develop self-control
  2. To have fun.
  3. To get good exercise.

Character development shall always be a priority of the Bellingham Christian School athletic programs rather than winning a game. Students with bad attitudes and un-sportsmanlike conduct shall be benched immediately, even if this means the team may lose.
